its funny how cell phones have changed the dimensions and dynamics of how we tell stories. i was thinking this as i was writing my current screenplay and remembering how 15 yrs ago the need & availability of a phone radically changed the way a scene unfolded. in a car? ok find a payphone. got a quarter? hopefully. if it was after 89 0r so, you better have had a dime with the quarter. no money? call collect, ask someone on the street, check the change slot, or rob the 7-11 next to the pay phone. make sure you add dialogue for all that. of course you could of made your character wealthy, and fortunate enough to have a car phone. cell phones in movies nowadays seems to make it too easy. but is it? in real life do we communicate better because of cell phones? maybe more efficiently and conveniently..but better? im not sure about that. as i write, the more and more i think they have complicated life in a lot of ways...
